Reverse-engineer when…
The part must fit existing hardware, the geometry is organic or hard to measure, or you have no drawings and need an exact match. Scanning captures reality; we rebuild from it.
Remodel from scratch when…
The part is simple and well-understood, you have accurate dimensions, or you intend to change it significantly anyway. Sometimes a clean sketch is faster than a scan.
The hybrid we use most
Scan for the critical mating features, model the rest parametrically. You get an exact fit where it matters and a clean, editable model everywhere else.
